Mini Projector Hack – 6 Best Uses For Them

With the pandemic still on the loose, we may find ourselves spending most of our time indoors. As a form of entertainment, we may be watching movies or shows on our phones or computers. Unfortunately, the screen may be on the smaller side and you might not get the full experience. A home theater system may be too expensive for some of us to afford. So what can one do?

A great tool to have would be a projector and particularly a mini one. But what are the advantages of a mini projector though?

Perks of a Mini Projector

A mini projector has several advantages over a regular one.

  • Significantly more portable
  • Some models produce higher quality images than regular projectors
  • Easier set-up
  • No outlet or power cable needed

Some disadvantages of a Mini Projector.

6 Best Uses for Mini Projectors

Large screen gaming

Even if you have a large screen television or monitor for your game console, it may still not be enough. Perhaps you are hosting a large game party like a tournament, the monitor may be too small for everyone to see. With a projector, you can enlarge the video so that many people can watch rather just a couple.

Presentations

Probably one of the more practical uses for a projector. Whenever we create projects, it is typically through a laptop. At least with school, there are most likely equipment that are provided like the projector, microphone, screen, and all that. However, that might not always be the case with work (unless you work with a prestigious organization).

By having a mini projector of your own, you can be sure that you will have a great visual for your presentation every time. Your boss will probably be impressed and give you bonus points for being so prepared with such high-tech gadgets.

Providing a checklist during a job that can get devices dirty

In the cases with cooking, you will be handling a lot of ingredients and be going through many steps. As you handle certain ingredients, your hands may be quite soiled. This can be a hassle especially if you have to keep washing your hands each time before utilizing your phone. Possibly to turn the phone back on or to scroll down as you go through the recipe.

Another option would be to print out the recipe because you can just throw it away after when done. However, certain liquids or foods might get on it before you finish and blur out some critical parts to the steps. You can avoid that by projecting the recipe onto the kitchen counter or wall instead.

Large art projects (i.e. Murals)

With large art projects like painting murals on walls, it can be easy to draw some things too big or too small. As a result, the final image may come out to be disproportionate. By projecting an image on the wall to guide you as you draw, you can be sure that everything will come out proportionately.

Special effects during holiday events

We may be those who go all out for special holidays like Halloween. You might have already decorated the front of your yard with scary props. But you can take it up a notch with image or video projections as well!

Why not apply some mist while you are at it too!

And of course, watching movies or shows

Watching movies or shows on the phone or computer can be limiting and because of the small screen, your eyes can get tired. With a projector, you can blow up the image so that you don’t find yourself squinting at times.

Recommendation: If you are feeling extra lazy and don’t feel like sitting up to watch a movie, you can lay in bed and project your program onto the ceiling and watch from there.

Just make sure you know where the fan is and heat can still escape from the device. Otherwise it might overheat and break down easier. Attaching it to a stand is a great option.

Summary of 6 Best Uses for Mini Projector

  1. Large screen gaming
  2. Presentations
  3. Providing a checklist during a job that can get devices dirty
  4. Large art projects (i.e. Murals)
  5. Special effects during holiday events
  6. Watching movies or shows

Mini Projector Still Too Big?

You can opt for something like the Pico Projector which is EVEN smaller. Depending on the brand, it may be limited to just photos and presentations. But here is a brand that can still do most of what a mini projector can.

Conclusion

Owning a mini projector can be quite advantageous. If a mini projector is still too big, you also have the option of the pico projector which is significantly smaller.

With either device, you can have practical uses for them like presentations at school or work. Perhaps you can even use them for art projects to make sure everything is drawn to scale. Last but not least, you can also use them for entertainment.

  2. I’ve never actually thought about getting a projector for some of the ideas you presented but my dad used one all our childhood time to show slides. So now you have me thinking that I could really use this when I am jamming with my band as I could bring the music up on my phone and project it on a wall and we will all be able to see the words and chords. What a great idea. I can see that they have really been upgraded and I love the new size.

A great review full of ideas thanks.

  3. Thank you for this amazing article about the mini projector. This is great, we have been on a Circumnavigation and have so many pictures. To show this on a regular laptop or even an LED screen is way too small. With this mini projector, I can finally invite my friends to give a lecture on circumnavigation. Simply great, thank you for this article, which is very important to me.

  4. Hi Mike
Thanks for sharing your views on the mini projector hack and the six best uses for them. You have shared quite a useful list of works which can be accomplished with the mini projector. Currently I have a full-fledged Dell Projector and find it difficult to set up every time my kids wish to watch a movie. So mini projector seems to be a good choice.

    • Hello there, Gaurav! That’s awesome that you have a projector to fulfill your needs. I worked with a regular projector before quite often for work and it was a bit of a hassle to have to set it up. It was also quite sensitive once it shuts down since it needed that cooling period before it should be started back up again. But it guess I was satisfied with what it was capable of for it’s time. I am sure new technology will continue to come out as time progresses.
